Athlete reels
A player reel is a short run of that athlete's best plays, with the athlete marked so a viewer knows who to watch. Coaches often watch on a phone between other tasks, so the strongest clips go first and every clip starts just before the snap, the serve or the touch. We don't pad a reel with average plays to reach a length. If the season has eight great plays, the reel has eight great plays.
The usual opening is a title card with the name, jersey number, position, graduation year and school, plus contact details if you want them on screen. A parent or guardian approves that card for athletes under 18.
Marking the player
On wide game film every player looks the same size. Before each clip starts, we freeze the frame for a beat and put a spot shadow, an arrow or a ring on your athlete, then let the play run. Tell us the jersey number and color for each game, since teams switch between home and away uniforms.
Team recaps
A season recap covers the whole roster: big plays, sideline reactions, senior night and the moments the team will want to see again at the banquet. It usually runs longer than a player reel and is set to music. We can also cut a short vertical version for the team's social accounts and individual clips for each senior.
Working from game film
Most school and club teams record every game and keep the film on a team platform. Ask the coach for downloads of the full games, or export the plays you have tagged. Phone clips from the stands work too, and they often catch a better angle on a single play. We match color across the sources so the reel looks like one season.
| Sport | What we look for | Helpful to send |
|---|---|---|
| Football | Full plays from the snap, with the athlete marked before the ball moves | Jersey numbers per game, end zone angle if recorded |
| Basketball | Possessions on both ends, not only made shots | Quarter and time for the plays you want |
| Soccer and lacrosse | Build-up before the shot, defensive stops, first touch | Which half, and the side your athlete played |
| Baseball and softball | At-bats, fielding, throws timed from release | Pitch speed or exit velocity readings, if measured |
| Volleyball | Rallies from the serve, with the point won | Rotation and position |
Length and order
Ask the coaches or programs your athlete is contacting what they prefer. Some want a short reel of the best plays, others want full game film as well. We can deliver both: a tight reel and a separate file with every play your athlete was on the field for.
Questions
Can you pick the best plays for me?
Yes. We watch the games and send a list of plays with the file and time for each, and you mark which to keep. You know the context better than anyone watching the film.
Do you upload the reel to a recruiting profile?
No. You get the finished files and keep control of every account. We size the files for wherever you plan to post them.
Can you add music?
For team recaps, yes, from a library you have a license for. Many player reels skip music so a coach can watch with the sound off.
